Tickets $25 available at communitychorusofdetroit.com

This magnificent holiday program features the 70-voice Community Chorus of Detroit and full orchestra. Between selected movements of the J.S. Bach Christmas Oratorio, which provide a framework for the program, the concerts highlight contemporary works that are text-related to the traditional Christmas story including, among others, Morten Lauridsen’s “O Magnum Mysterium,” Brandon Spencer’s “The Lamb,” John Rutter’s “Candlelight Carol,” Billy Joel’s “Lullabye,” and Ysaye Barnwell’s “Would You Harbor Me?” With music from across an ocean and across centuries, the program weaves together the timeless story with our lives and world today, celebrating our universal shared humanity. Masking is optional for audience members, however, our choristers will remain masked during performances. The Community Chorus of Detroit cannot acknowledge ticket orders by email; will-call tickets will be held in your name at the door.

Longest Night Prayer Service

Wed., Dec. 21 • 7:00 p.m.

The nights grow long around the time of the Winter Solstice. We know the darkness of life and feel its ache in holiday seasons. On this evening, the church will host a prayer service that is a safe and sacred place to bring to God our grief, loss, sadness, and uncertainty. Join us for healing prayers, scripture, and music. In the secure place of worship, we bring all we experience and open ourselves to the God whose love never ends. If you know someone whose heart is heavy, consider inviting them to join you.

Family Christmas Service

We will share the traditional Christmas story in a family-friendly way, including a choral quartet, meditation, Bible readings and carols. The service is designed to be equally meaningful to adults and children. All are invited. The service is not limited to families and children but to anyone who prefers an earlier time.
